Conference Homepage

Below you can find various information about travel for the Cork conference.

FLIGHTS:

It is recommended to fly to Cork via a European airport or to Dublin Airport.

CORK AIRPORT
Direct Flights to Cork:
Norwegian Air fly direct from Providence T.F. Green Airport (PVD) from April 2, 2019 up to October 26, 2019 three-times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

There are many connections to Cork Airport from UK airports and via various European Airports, such as Amsterdam Schiphol; you can see the direct flights from European destinations here.

Cork Airport is not that far outside the city centre, so it’s convenient to take a bus or a taxi. We unfortunately do not have Uber in Ireland. Bus Éireann (“Irish Bus”) Routes 226 and 226A provide a frequent service linking Cork Airport to Cork City Centre/Cork Bus Station but in the evening are less frequent. Cork Airport to Parnell Place Bus Station in the City Centre takes approximately 20 minutes.

DUBLIN AIRPORT
The following airlines have direct flights between North America and Dublin: Norwegian Air International, Icelandair, British Airways, WOW air, Norwegian, Air Canada, American Airlines, Finnair, Lufthansa, KLM, SWISS. More information on Dublin Airport here.

SHANNON AIRPORT
Direct flights between Shannon and Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Providence, and Toronto. More information about Shannon Airport here.

LOCAL TRANSPORTATION:

If arriving in DUBLIN AIRPORT, you can get one of the following modes of transport direct to Cork City:

AIRCOACH

Book online to go from Dublin Airport to Cork City Centre; buses are regular and go overnight also. The bus usually takes around three and a half hours direct to Cork, but depends on traffic and time of day.

GOBUS

Book online to go from Dublin Airport to Cork City Centre; buses are regular and go overnight also.

The Irish National Bus Service, Bus Éireann, has services from Dublin Airport to Cork City Centre.

Alternatively, get a bus into Dublin City and get a TRAIN to Cork; there are direct trains (a little over 3 hours) with Iarnród Éireann/Irish Rail.

GETTING TO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK:

How to get here.

Please note that on Bus Éireann buses, you cannot pay by credit card so you will need Euros – on routes 205 and 208 that go from the city centre to UCC, you can only buy the ticket on the bus. It is €2.40 to UCC, no return fares available, only single journeys. On city-town and inter-city routes you can buy the ticket from the Bus Station Travel Centre or machines by cash or card. The 208 bus stops just before the main gates of UCC and the 205 stops at the same stop and also continues on up College Road and the first stop on College Road is across from the side entrance to UCC; when you enter here, you descend the steps to the Boole Basement Lecture Theatre where the registration and conference opening will take place from 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 13.

You can walk to the university campus in about 20 minutes from the city centre, 30 minutes from the Bus Station Parnell Place.

There will be a campus map in your conference pack. UCC Visitor’s Centre runs walking tours of the campus. You might be interested to see the largest collection of Ogham Stones that are in the Quad – the reception will be held in the Aula Maxima and the stones are in the corridor beside it. There is an art gallery on campus, the Glucksman.
